April 1 2015 – That was the first time RTR – The T Nagar chapter of Dream Runners was initiated.  A small but interesting backstory to this… FB was very famous at that time (It still is 😊) and seeing pictures of my friend from Bessie dreamers taking part in Marathons and the results made me reach out to her asking if there was anything in Vadapalani. She gave the good news that Dream Runners was to start a chapter in T Nagar and promptly routed me to Prashant and that’s how it all started!

 

So, the first day of RTR, as a matter of fact, started near Ashok Pillar, attended by a motley group of 5 – 6 runners, and spearheaded by Rajeev, Prashanth and Mythili from Dream Runners and ably supported by Palani and Shriram from Bessie dreamers. The very next session was shifted to Panagal Park and we had a very good attendance and almost all of us had very little insight into endurance running and the training schedules for it. The group was a lovely mix of young and old (Young at heart 😊), Students, housewives, IT professionals, entrepreneurs… You name it and you have them all!

 

Still vividly remember how we used to huff and puff for a 3 kms run and the structured training, postulated by Dream Runners team ensured that we were all able to complete our respective run categories in an admirable fashion in the DRHM 2015, sans any injuries! 

Post DRHM, Run T Nagar continued with training with the existing members and new ones who got added and moved from strength to strength. We have been ably led by Srini Sir (RTR Head (Thala)) since the inception and he is always our ‘Go to’ man for any help, advice, issues with regards to RTR. Dream Runners have always been instrumental in all our efforts to make running accessible to more people and the branding helped us in getting the required mileage (Pun Intended) to go the distance!

 

In 2018, 3 years since inception, we have a group of 130 members and we have successfully conducted anniversary runs with an eye on spreading the cheer and inculcate fitness habits amongst T Nagar residents and ensuring that the vision of Dream runners is achieved. RTR runners have made names for themselves in various marathons. For some of them, personal records are broken with every subsequent marathon and we have lost count J Some of RTR runners have been podium finishers in a couple of marathons as well!

 

Overall, what this has achieved is the fact that it’s a reflection of a family, which cares for each other and celebrates each other’s victories as their own and the camaraderie, most often gets extended to their families as well!!

 

The association of Run T Nagar Run and Dream runners is a dream come true for each runner around the T Nagar area and it’s something all of us will cherish for years to come!
