Back in 2016, “Medavakkam Dreamers” was just an idea by few enthusiastic athletes and our Dream Runner mentors happily accepted to start a new chapter in the neighborhood.
Today, we can proudly say that “Team Medavakkam Dreamers” has helped atleast 50+ people to move from couch and call themselves as a physically active person and just short of a professional athlete.
In 3 years, we have seen around 15-20 people progress steadily from 10k runners to Half Marathoners to Full Marathoners. Year on year, the structured training by DR helps in expanding our team and spread the fitness mantra.
Our veteran runners and mentors play a key part in motivating the team and a very active role in guiding newbies to make a disciplined plan to achieve their short term and long-term goals.
We have a full-time coach on board who is into physical education for school kids as a regular profession and specializes in preparing athletes for long distance running and highly skilled Yoga master.
Our training venue is Radha Nagar Park which has a huge ground for training activities. It is very ideally located in the border of Medavakkam and Perumbakkam and we have teammates as far as Chromepet and Potheri (near SRM college).
Our training plan include one outstation training per month such as beach or flyover or hill workouts. Our hill runs and workouts are generally done at Peru hills or Pallavaram hills.
Below is the training schedule of a typical week.
Tuesdays and Saturday: Tough and Happy Coach Days with variety of core workouts, static, dynamic strengthening, upper body workouts, Leg Strengthening workouts etc.
Wednesday: Aerobic Runs
Thursday: Speed workouts such as Tempo, Fartlek or Intervals
Monday: Rest day
Friday: Active rest day with Yoga or walking or Cross training in Swimming or Cycling
Sunday: Long runs signing off with a yummy breakfast
