A very unique feature of Dream Runners Half Marathon – the mega-marathon event happening in the city since many years now, is to conduct a three months long free training session for the beginners, who are willing to take baby steps towards running as a fitness habit, right before the event. This training session equips the trainees both physically and psychologically to run a proper timed marathon of at least 10 kms. Some even go on to attempt a whopping 21 kms too, depending on their confidence and physical ability. Soon after the commencement of this training session the trainees participate in DRHM and graduate themselves as runners. Post that there is a void and these runners wonder how to go ahead with this wonderful fitness habit that they have already developed as working out alone can get boring and to have like-minded people around is always a bliss when it comes to running.
This is where a new story unfolds and that’s the foundation of Annanagar Dreamers, the Annanagar Chapter of Dream Runners! On 2nd of August, 2015, soon after the DRHM 2015 got over, a bunch of about 26 members came together, most of them from the trainee group, and formed Annanagar Dreamers or fondly called AND. Since then there has been no looking back and as they say, we let our ‘tribe grow’ in leaps and bounds but meaningfully.
Today AND comprises of about 60 odd members, out of which we have a handful of them who have found their calling in cycling over running. As our tribe is growing, we have ensured that there is never a dull moment when it comes to the training sessions. The variations in our workout sessions comprise of beach workouts, boot camps, Zumba classes, hill runs, yoga and much more apart from the regular strengthening and running sessions. The structured training sessions are designed in such a way that the members get adequate workout, rest and eventually fitter by the day. We even help our members get proper nutrition and follow a healthy lifestyle by organising expert talks from time to time.
AND has always been identified as a fun group by peers and we are happy to call ourselves a fun filled fitness group as at AND, there is never a dull moment. We work hard and party harder. Today we have quite a few of us who are Ultra Marathon runners, a handful have moved themselves to the next level by running full marathon and half marathons. Many are running 10km in sub 1 hour timing and above everything, AND is providing a way of life to its members. There’s something for everybody in the group. Be it for people, who are looking for a regular fitness activity or the ones, who are focused towards bettering their performance and place themselves among those elite runners, we have plans and training structures for everybody.
